Water birth is a peaceful, calming option for families planning a home birth in Tulsa, Oklahoma. At Levana Birth Midwifery, we support women who desire a more peaceful, supported birth experience which often includes laboring and birthing in water. Birth pools are included in care, we will set it up and take it down, all you have to do is experience the relief! Whether you’re newly exploring your options or already planning a home birth in Tulsa, water birth is a beautiful option to consider.

What is Waterbirth?

A water birth simply means spending part, or most, of labor in a warm birth pool, and in many cases, welcoming your baby while you are in the water. Some women choose to labor in the pool for comfort and then birth outside of it, while others remain in the water for the birth itself. The warm water is studied to help the body relax, supports freedom of movement, and creates a sense of privacy and calm that many women instinctively respond to. One of the beautiful things about water birth is that it is completely flexible. You can enter and exit the pool at any time based on what feels best for your body.

Benefits of Waterbirth

Water birth offers a number of benefits that support the natural physiology of labor. The warmth of the water can help muscles relax, often allowing contractions to feel more manageable and productive. Many women experience a decreased perception of pain and a greater ability to stay present and grounded during labor. Being in the water also allows for easier movement and position changes, which can help baby navigate through the pelvis more effectively. For baby, being born into warm water can provide a gentler transition from the womb to the outside world. Overall, water birth tends to support a more calm, instinctive, and undisturbed labor process.

When attended by a trained and experienced midwife, water birth is considered a safe option for low-risk pregnancies. Throughout labor, both mom and baby are closely monitored, and there is always the option to exit the pool at any point if needed. Water birth has been used widely around the world and is supported by a growing body of evidence when practiced appropriately. My role is to ensure that you and your baby remain safe while also protecting the normal, physiologic process of birth.

What Does Water Birth Look Like at Home?

Water birth at home is often a cozy and deeply personal experience. A birth pool is set up in your living room, bedroom, or wherever you feel most comfortable. The space is typically calm and intentionally created with dim lighting, music if you choose, and familiar surroundings that help you feel safe and supported. As your midwife, I closely monitor you and your baby throughout labor while also giving you the space to move, rest, and follow your instincts. Partners are often very involved, offering support and connection throughout the process. Many families describe water birth at home as peaceful, empowering, and even joyful. I keep a close eye on the temperature of the water to make sure it is safe for baby to be born into. I will drain the birth pool into the toilet with a sub pump, and dispose of the pool liner, and leave you without any cleanup at all!

At Levana Birth, water birth is not just about the pool, it’s about the entire experience surrounding it. Our care is deeply relationship-based, which means by the time you are in labor, we already know each other well and you feel supported and at ease. I prioritize creating a calm, unrushed environment where you can fully trust your body and follow your instincts. Birth is treated as a family-centered experience, and your partner and children are welcome to be involved in a way that feels natural to you. My goal is to provide both clinical safety and emotional presence, so you feel held, supported, and empowered throughout your birth.
